Thursday January 23rd, 2014, from 7pm, Filmonik HQ, 3rd Floor, New Art Spaces Federation House, Balloon Street, Manchester, M60 0AF
This year is Filmonik’s Tenth Anniversary, and we are kicking it off with a bang, with the launch of Filmonik HQ.
That’s right. After a decade of relying on the kindness of other venues, Filmonik finally has a permanent home, supported by Castlefield Gallery's New Art Spaces. An 800-square-metre studio space right in the heart of the city, less than a minute’s walk from bus, train, and tram stations. The itinerant filmmakers and creatives of Manchester now have a full-time base of operations, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to serve as office, film studio and production facility, sound stage, screening venue; a space for performance and exhibition, practice and rehearsal, meetings and presentations. A space limited only by its capacity, which is considerable, and by the imagination of those who wish to use it, which is hopefully boundless.
This official launch party for Filmonik's 3rd floor space will be a chance to see the space for yourselves, to consider the possibilities it offers, to network with other creatives, to make plans, to be inspired.
Remember, though: Filmonik HQ is still a work in progress, taking shape through the contributions of others, and so this will be a FUNDRAISING EVENT. Money is always welcome (there will be cheap drinks), because while this is a not-for-profit space, we do have running costs. But we also need STUFF. Everything from kitchenware to furniture, from curtains to cables, from props to items of kit. Anything you don’t want that you think might be of use, please bring it along. And if you have in-kind support you can offer, a skill-set you can contribute, from plumbing to wiring, from fundraising to insurance advice, we’d be happy to hear from you. Like a certain supermarket says, every little helps. We want this space to be for everybody, and the best way to make this happen is encourage everybody to contribute to its creation.

We hope to see you there.
